Day 27 – Normality

Day 27 and a return to normality, training hard and eating well.

Day: 27 of 77
Date: 7/06/2013
Workout Day: 20
Weight (lb): 166.8 (5.0 lb loss)
Body Fat %: 15.3 (1.3% loss)
Health: Fine 10/10

After a few days abroad the scales are trying to convince me that I’ve eaten too much. I know this isn’t the case, but with a bit of extra weight on I think I can start to see a bit of muscle growth in the mirror. Cosmetically I feel like I’ve hit an inflection point where the muscle gains have started to increase and the fat loss has started to accelerate. Maybe this is my insulin sensitivity improving. I do hope so. But at the same time I’m still feeling and performing great on ultra low carb so know there’s a fair way to go before I’m eating ice cream again.

Eating “properly” again is a real pleasure. A small breakfast of meat and nuts, lunch of meat and veg, and a dinner of more meat and veg is a way of life for me and I enjoy the predictability and simplicity of it all. And being able to train with the equipment I like is a joy. Today’s session was focused on chest and arms and didn’t go brilliantly. I gave it everything I had but at times there was no way I could get close to the prescribed timing and set patterns. Performing a set of tricep presses, followed without rest by failure sets of diamond press ups seems impossible to me (considering the requirement to pause for 20 seconds in the top position after failure). I just don’t see how this is possible. The same goes for the dip failure sets. Surely if you fail on dips you physically can’t rest at the top?? Well not for 20 seconds repeatedly anyway. That aside I still smashed my arms and chest and they still ache some hours later.

I’ve been thinking about the days after I finish this programme. Will I actually want to eat carbs? Will I be too nervous to eat more calories? I love the simplicity and predictability of this current regimen. I’m sure this Stockholm syndrome will pass, but I’m loving the control, the strictness and the certainty that it can’t fail.
